A Link to ‘Red Microblog’

Just last night, I called bullshit on US bloggers. Several self-proclaimed news sites reported on this same story about China launching a “Communist Twitter”. For some strange reason, not a single one of these sites (Engadget included, which posted another pointless replica today) included a link to the site in question. That left me wondering if this supposed “Red Microblog” truly existed. Well, after more and more research, enlisting the help of the China subreddit, I finally achieved my goal of finding this elusive propaganda….

The Internets have been all atwitter lately with a rumor that China has released a “communist version of Twitter”. Unfortunately, no sources were included in the articles. Is this just crappy journalism or a fabricated story altogether? Doing some research into Chinese microblogging, I came across a fantastic little site called fanfou.com. If you could buy knock-off microblogging sites in Chinatown, this is what you’d get. It’s a near-perfect replica. Though this is likely not the site rumored to have launched lately as it has….
